Coyotes captain Garrett Kucher commits to Saints for 2013/14
Friday, February 22, 2013 - Submitted by Saints Men's Hockey
The Selkirk College Saints Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from local forward Garrett Kucher (Trail, B.C.) to attend Selkirk College and compete for the Saints beginning in the 2013/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Kucher is currently completing his final year of junior hockey eligibility with the Kootenay Junior Hockey League's Osoyoos Coyotes. The 20-year old has excelled this season, picking up 21 goals and 52 points in 41 regular season games as the Coyotes' captain. He leads the team with 1.3 points per game and has totaled 80 points in 76 career KIJHL games split between Osoyoos and Kimberley.

"Garrett is a skilled winger who has a great shot and plays the game with a ton of energy," says Saints head coach Jeff Dubois.

"He's had a very productive season in Osoyoos, where he's elevated his game this season while thriving in a leadership role. I'm excited by his potential to be a key player at the college level and it comes as a bonus that he's a local kid who will get to play in front of friends and family."

The Trail product is also a former Saint, having suited up for Selkirk during the first half of the 2011/12 season. He picked up 10 points and 44 penalty minutes in 12 regular season games before joining the Coyotes for the remainder of the season.

"I’m excited to come to Selkirk College to start my education at a great school and play a higher level of hockey," he says. "I want to continue to improve my skills at a college level and I'm looking forward to doing everything I can to help the team be successful."

Kucher, who was named the Coyotes’ Most Inspirational Player this season, plans to enroll in Selkirk's Business Administration program.

"There aren’t many guys in the KIJHL that have Garrett's speed or his tremendous shot," says Coyotes head coach Ken Law. "Selkirk is getting a tireless worker with a great team attitude and a passion for winning. We were very fortunate to have Garrett play such a huge role during our 2012/13 season and we wish him all the best in his college career with the Saints."

Kucher is Selkirk’s third commitment for the 2013/14 season, joining defenceman Stefan Gonzales (Aldergrove, PJHL/Victoria, BCHL) and Ryan Procyshyn (Delta, PJHL).
